Provides financial assistance to purchase necessary prescription drugs for people who would be in an emergency situation without assistance. Also included are programs that reimburse individuals for their prescription expenses, usually on an annual basis. Prescription expense assistance programs may have age, income, disability, need or other eligibility requirements.
The Action for Older Person (AOP)'s Long Term Care Resource Center offers a wide range of information on aging and retirement issues. Offers publications, video tapes and video-viewing area, computer work stations with internet access, resource materials for other local agenices, monthly classes on a variety of topics, and more.
Medicaid pays for medical care and services for needy families and individuals who qualify under the law. Medicaid applications are available at the Oswego County Department of Social Services, Spring Street, Mexico, New York 13114. Oswego County residents should call the Department of Social Services at 963-5000 or 1-800-596-3200
The purpose of the Pooled Trust is to provide an individual with a physical or mental disability, or an individual with a chronic or acquired illness, an alternative to the Medicaid “spend down.” The supplemental needs Pooled Trust helps individuals who have too much monthly income or financial resources to qualify for Medicaid. Rather than sending in their excess income to the county Department of Social Services, money is put into a Pooled Trust account and can then be used for the individual to meet their “spend down” requirement for Medicaid coverage.

Caring Voice Coalition program provides financial assistance in the form of monetary grants to help pay for medication costs.
Safety Net Grants help dialysis patients with a variety of financial needs related to treatment. Medicare Part D Grants are available for qualified patients to help with their deductibles, co-pays and coverage gap costs for prescribed bone care medications that are covered by Medicare Part D. The Health Insurance Premium Program HIPP pays Part B Medicare, Medigap, commercial, and COBRA premiums for dialysis patients who have insufficient income and savings.
Even if your annual income is higher, you still may be able to get some help. Contact Social Security for details on income and resource limits. Helps pay for the costs of monthly premiums, annual deductibles and prescription co-payments related to your Medicare prescription drug plan. If you already receive Extra Help, you will not need to reapply in 2010. SS will see if you are entitled to any additional Extra Help because they no longer count your life insurance or help with household expenses. SS will send information to your state notifying them you may eligible for a Medicare Savings Program which may help with Parts A and B.
The Allegany County Office for the Aging offers insurance counseling to individuals with Medicare, private insurances, Medicaid and other insurance plans. One on one counseling appointments are available at the office M-F from 8am-4pm. A Medicare Basics class is offered the second Thursday of every month at the Office for the Aging in Belmont NY.

Geriatric Care Managers connect individuals with the services, coverage, and information needed to remain safe and independent or can be your eyes and ears for family who live out of town but want to know their loved ones are being watched after.

Medicare Rights Center is a national consumer service organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and individuals with disabilities through counseling, advocacy, educational programs and public policy initiatives. They assist with Medicare questions through consumer and professional hotlines, educational material and training.
