The Program:

HFHOC’s Home Preservation is an exterior home repair program that offers painting, landscaping and minor repair services to eligible homeowners so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come.

How It Works:

Home Preservation is a partnership between current homeowners and Habitat for Humanity. Habitat volunteers provide labor to complete the projects, and an affordable loan is made to the homeowner to cover the cost of materials. Participating homeowners contribute sweat equity* hours in accordance with the size of the project and their ability.

*Sweat equity is a central tenant of Habitat for Humanity and provides meaningful interaction between partner families, Habitat volunteers, other homeowners, Habitat staff, community members and neighbors.

Who Can Apply:

◾Residence of Ontario County* (both individuals and families) that live in and own a home in need of exterior repairs

◾Must meet income guidelines, be current on taxes and have homeowners insurance

◾Applicants must be willing to partner with Habitat

◾Scope of repairs requested must fall within the scope of the program

*Please Note: This program is currently limited to homes within the City of Canandaigua. 2016 projects are made possible by a CDBG grant from the City of Canandaigua.

Managed by the Chenango Housing Improvement Program, Inc., Norma Gardens apartment complex provides eight one-bedroom, eight two-bedroom, and eight three-bedroom apartments to individuals who meet income guidelines. No pets. Wait list varies, contact management.

Offers a residence designed for individuals with Alzheimer's or other cognitive impairments. This comprehensive program enables residents to feel safe and secure in a comfortable, home-like environment. Also provides creative activity programs to support and enhance each individual's capabilities. There is even a secure outdoor garden with walking paths for residents to enjoy. Juniper Manor I is funded by a federal govenrment low interest loan (HUD) and managed by Better Housing of Tompkins County Inc. It was built in 1982.
The complex is near local stores and services. It is set back from the road
with a long drive and surrounded by large trees and grassy lawns. Features: Each unit has an emergency call system. The apartments are electrically heated and furnished with a stove and refrigerator plus wall-to-wall carpeting. It has a controlled entry system with modern safety and fire protection. Air conditioners are allowed. There is on-site parking, inside mail delivery, in-house laundry facilities, cable TV, and community lounges. A chair lift and elevator to the second floor are available for residents with restricted mobility.
Activities are tenant-organized. They include dish-to-pass, birthday parties, and exercise classes. There is a small library. Groups from the community often come to visit. Some residents enjoy gardening and work on the flower beds in the grounds.
