Action for Older Persons (AOP) has Support Services, in which workers work to connect and offer various levels of support to following organizations: BC Senior Citizens Council, Coalitions for Home Health Care, and Southern Tier End of Life Coalition.
The RISE Advocacy Services provides victims of domestic violence with legal information, advocacy, support, and accompaniment to law enforcement, family or criminal court, and social service system. Assists victims with applying for compensation from NYS Crime Victims Board, provided victim meets guidelines. Does not have to be shelter resident to receive services.
The Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley is rooted in a philosophy of self reliance and self determination. We offer the following services to individuals with disabilities and their families.Advocacy-Advise individuals of their legal, economic and educational rights and assist them in securing those rights.Peer Counseling-We provide an environment where persons with disabilities share their experiences either on a one to one basis or in a group setting.Benefits Advisement- We provide support, information and guidance to individuals about obtaining needed services either on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting.Information and Referral-We provide information and referral regarding community resources and programs, recreational services, special education services, civil rights, employment, accessibility, travel and assistive technology.Housing Information-We provide information on how to make housing accessible, how to obtain accessible housing. We also provide advice on tenants rights and responsibilities.Consultation on Architectural Barriers-Consultation services to area businesses, houses of worship, community groups, and individuals on planning for a ""barrier free"" environment.Transportation-Assist individuals in obtaining needed transportation services. Provide limited transportation with our own van.Living skills-Provide training to individuals that will assist them to be independent in their daily living. We also provide social and cultural skills enrichment programs.Employment services-Assist individuals in obtaining and keeping meaningful employment. We assist employers in obtaining and training employees with a disability.Personal assistance services-Assist individuals in hiring their own personal assistant. The Dispute Resolution Center uses a panel of trained volunteer mediators to assist people in resolving conflicts such as elder care, neighborhood, housing, property, agricultural, work place, school, family, divorce, relationships, special education, and small claims.Elder Mediation brings family members and professionals together to address the major life changes inherent in the aging process. As in divorce, families need to make financial, legal, and emotional decisions in order to work through this transition. Making it through the senior years requires addressing questions such as: How should money be allocated? What type of trust would I create? Who should help with caretaking? All too often these decision are in the face of disagreement, difficulty, and geographical distance. The formalized yet fluid decision-making process of mediation helps individuals to make the necessary decisions to meet aging challenges. The specialty of Elder Mediation focuses on developing quality elder care, minimizing family conflict, and increasing wife financial planning.
