Description:Buffalo Urban League's housing counseling services provides 5 core services: (1) First-time home buyer’s education and counseling; (2) Financial capacity education and counseling; (3) Mortgage foreclosure intervention; (4) rental assistance counseling; and (5) fair housing counseling and education.
• First-time home buyer’s education and counseling first provides an overview of the home buying process. After this overview is given, participants work one-on-one with counselors that guide first time buyers through the process. Buyers are also educated on the "First Home Club," which is a fund matching program where recipients can get up to $7,500 toward the down payment of a home.
• Financial capacity education and counseling assists individuals with their finances through workshops and one-on-one counseling. Topics may include budgeting, credit repair, banking, predatory lending, and avoiding foreclosure.
• Mortgage foreclosure intervention helps homeowners negotiate an affordable plan to resolve or prevent foreclosure and losing their home.
• Rental assistance counseling help tenants find, secure, and maintain affordable living. Occasionally, the Urban League can aid with the first month’s rent, up to $500.00.
• Fair housing counseling and education helps inform the public of their rights as a tenant or homeowner and how to report any violations of these rights.
