Selfhelp Innovative Senior Center

  • Description:

    Selfhelp operates six senior centers in Queensáthat offer Selfhelp housing tenants and more than 6,000 seniors living nearby a wide variety of educational and social activities.
    Social workers can help with short-term counseling and referrals to community resources, advise on quality of life and entitlement services, and assist with applications for benefits. Exercise and health related classes, bi-monthly blood pressure screenings, vision and auditory health screenings, annual flu and pneumonia shots are available to all. Group activities include: Computer Classes, Arts and Crafts Classes, Citizenship Classes, English as a Second Language (ESL), Current Events Lectures, Bridge and Canasta Classes, Yoga and Exercise Classes, Tai Chi, Bereavement and Loss Groups, Music Appreciation and Choral Groups, Birthday, Anniversary, Theme Parties, Group Trips, Discussion Groups, Bingo, Mah Jongg, Ping Pong, Line Dancing, Ballroom Dancing, and Yuanji Dancing.
