UTA’s Homeless Prevention Program is directed at helping low income tenants to remain in their apartments. Through a combination of intensive counseling, landlord/tenant mediation, court advocacy and in some situations the use of emergency financial assistance, becoming homeless is greatly reduced.
A growing number of households pay over 45% of their income for housing and many of the severely rent burdened are the working poor, some of whom transitioned from public assistance into jobs that are often part-time or short term, and which seldom have benefits. A personal or economic crisis can often bring the families to the brink of homelessness.
Provides awareness, education, and outreach activities to schools, organizations, and service providers in the community. Activities are designed to increases prevention and awareness for sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and about health relationships. Resources are provided to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking on college campuses in Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.
First Ward Action Council (FWAC) provides assistance to Binghamton first and second ward residents with issues affecting neighborhoods, such as neighborhood re-development and improvement. Maintains information on housing and provides referrals. Provides assistance to neighborhood watch groups and other community organizations. Offers internships in conjunction with Binghamton University.
Qualification: children enrolled in Medicaid under the age of 21 and who have at least 2 chronic health conditions, a diagnosed serious emotional disturbance (SED ), experienced trauma and is at risk for another chronic condition. Health Home Care managers help a family coordinate all of the services the family is receiving, as well as searching out other services your family will benefit from.
The Delaware County Senior Council, comprised of representatives from Senior Clubs throughout the county, serves as an important link between the county's elder citizens and the Office for the Aging. The Council meets at 12:30 p.m., the 2nd Monday of every month at The First Presbyterian Church, Clinton Street Delhi, NY. All Seniors are always welcome to attend. Educational Advocacy offers parents, caregivers and school districts the understanding regarding special education plans (ex. 504 or Individualized Educational Plan - IEP) and how a youth/young adult can utilize their plan to assist in succeeding while attending P-12 Education.
