During tax season AARP-Plattsburgh sponsors free tax preparation for senior residents of Clinton and Essex counties. Taxes are prepared by experienced IRS-approved volunteers and are submitted electronically for efficient processing.

VITA stands for ""Volunteer Income Tax Assistance"" The purpose of the Akwesasne VITA program is to increase money coming into the community, decrease the amount of money being spent on tax preparation fees and refund anticipation loans, increase e-filing, and promote awareness of various tax credits., Provides free tax preparation assistance to eligibility individuals and families, promotes the Earning Income Tax Credits, and raises awareness of other tax credits.
The Tax Assessor for the Town of Conklin maintains all of the financial programs that work to lower ones taxes and provide financial assistance. First time should call Assessor's Office and go to office for one-to-one consultation. Renewal applications will be mailed. Family or friend can apply for first time applicant or renewal with applicant's signature and required documentation.
The Town of Fenton Tax Assessor oversees the programs that help people lower their taxes or provide financial assistance. New applicants should call to request an application. Renewal applications are mailed out. Assessor will make home visit for homebound if needed. Call for hours or to schedule an appointment.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to the elderly taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
