Services Provided: Crisis Intervention, Emergency Services, Hotlines /Infolines, Information/Referral, Advocacy for Domestic Violence, Volunteer Opportunities, Pantry/Buying Club, Thrift Shop, Food/Food Stamps.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a national volunteer agency. RSVP offers diverse opportunities to serve in many locations. Volunteer assignments are a match between the specific interests of the volunteer and the particular needs of an organization. Provides transportation to medical appointments only. No wheelchair accessibility. Minimum one week notice.
Offers anyone who would like to volunteer to help with recreation activities for the disabled in tennis or in the creative arts. Also accepts monetary donations to add to the scholarship fund. Call for details
Adult literacy services. One-on-one tutoring in basic reading or English as a second language tutoring. GED Classes/tutoring. One-to-one tutoring.
Senior Club
Provides technology for people with physical disabilities which includes augmentative/alternative communication to assist those who are unable to communicate via speech computer access environmental controls to learn new approaches to everyday tasks such as turning on household appliances and seating and wheeled mobility which provides wheelchairs and customized seating/positioning systems. Also offers clinical evaluations, information services, inpatient, outpatient, and day hospital services.
Services offered by Catholic Charities include: Counseling of individual couples, families, children, Foster Grandparent program, Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program. Services provided on a non-sectarian basis and the agency does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, religious affiliation, ethnic background or sexual orientation.
Volunteers facilitate support groups, answer phones, participate in fundraising endeavors, staff the hotline and perform a variety of office tasks. Call for details
Volunteers lead English conversation groups to help immigrants improve their speaking and listening skills for 1.5 hours weekly. A short training session for volunteers is provided. Call for details
The Museum of the Earth at the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) offers everyone an opportunity to explore the history of life on earth dating back 550 million years. The museum displays over 650 specimens from PRIæs world-class fossil collection including the 44-foot skeleton of the Right Whale #2030 and the Hyde Park Mastodon, one of the most complete skeletons ever found! Audio-visual presentations and hands-on exhibits bring the ancient past of New York to life, while programs and activities engage families, fossil and shell enthusiasts, and serious collectors of all ages!Museum tours are available Monday, Wednesday, & Friday at 11:30 a.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Call for dates and lecture information regarding Natural History @ Noon, Artist-in-Residence, and other exciting program series.Volunteers are always welcome and make a substantial impact on the Museumæs success!
