Program Alcohol and Drug Prevention Program:

Alcohol and Drug Prevention Program

  • Description:

The Alcohol and Drug Prevention Education Program (ADPEP) is provided in each of our five counties (Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates) every other month of the year, beginning in January.

This program was originally adapted from ADPEP’s used in the Albany and Buffalo areas, by other NYS Council’s on addiction. Since then, our dedicated staff continue to update and improve the program based on the needs of our communities.

The program itself is a total of six hours, beginning at either 3:30pm, or 4:00pm, and lasting until 5:30pm or 6:00pm, depending on the county. It is spread out into three, two hour sessions, either held each Wednesday for three consecutive weeks, or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of the same week, again, depending on the county.

    Program topics include:

    ◾Risk & Protective Factors

    ◾Alcohol abuse & binge drinking

◾Bodily harms, and health consequences of substance abuse

    ◾Specifics on substances of abuse

◾Definitions of Substance Abuse & Addiction

    ◾Different areas of addiction

    ◾Substance abuse & family issues

    Requirements:

In addition to class time, program participants are required to complete homework assignments for each class. These assignments are mandatory, and may affect eligibility to graduate the program if not completed.

Participants must also be present, and respectful for all three classes to graduate. The Council reserves the right to dismiss any student suspected of being under the influence of substances during class.

A fee of $75 is due to the Council on the first day of class. (Debit/credit cards, and personal checks are NOT accepted. We accept cash, and money orders) Unpaid fee’s may result in a withholding of completion certificates/letters to the participants’ referral source.

    Referral sources generally include:

◾Local court systems (Youth Court included)

◾School disciplinary teams, administrators, and mental health staff

    ◾Parents & Family

◾Any agency or organization working with youth who are experimenting with substances, or showing early signs of substance abuse

Youth attending this program must be ages 14-20. Youth under 13 and over 20 will not be accepted into this program, as we feel they would be better served by other resources.
