The CCNS Bayside Senior Center has been a community center to people sixty years and older since 1977.á It is sponsored by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens and funded by NYC Department for the Aging. Approximately 140 older adults from diverse backgrounds attend daily, participating in classes, eating lunch together, learning and socializing.A range of activities and services are offered Monday through Friday, which include: catered kosher lunches; social services provided by an experienced Case Manager and an LMSW Program Manager; educational workshops, healthy aging classes in Tai Chi, chair yoga, meditation and aerobics; line dance and ballroom dance; lifestyle management classes; oil painting and crafts classes;á humor and politics discussion; beginner's bridge classes as well as a duplicate bridge game; sing-alongs and first run movies. They also book lectures in health and nutrition, benefits and entitlements.á They partner with health providers, colleges and other non-profits to provide workshops, preventative health screenings and intergenerational programs. Additionally, they book trips to museums, historic sites and ball games.á Special events and parties are also held monthly. Opportunities to volunteer are available to members, community residents and students. Transportation to the center is provided to seniors who are unable to take public transportation.
